It seems that wherever one looks in New Jersey's Great Swamp during autumn, the eye takes in a startling array of beauty. Here, the clear October light shimmered on the distant foliage to create a fall palette of delicate pastels, while the tall trees silhouetted in midrange cast their shadows across the shrubbery and swampy ground beneath. Closer yet, the brilliant late afternoon sun bleached a rotting branch almost white against the colorful fall weeds and wildflowers which had grown up where the log had long ago fallen. The air was cool and the breeze light, and I remember the stillburning warmth of the early autumn sun stinging my skin. This painting was accepted into the Fine Arts Juried Exhibition at the Schacknow Museum of Fine Arts in Plantation, FL.
