Birch Park on Fort Lauderdale Beach was Hugh Taylor Birch's gift to the state of Florida some 180 acres of largely pristine acreage ranging from dune grass to coastal hammock. In the middle of the park sits a tranquil freshwater lagoon, unusual in itself on a barrier island, and reflecting from its western bank the image of a lonely birch tree, almost as if in honor of its donor.
