Every artist who has ever visited Sanibel Island (FL) has probably painted the Sanibel lighthouse. Here we see it as it is most beautifully experienced — up close, far back from the water, rising amidst a thick wood of soaring Australian pines and other tropical vegetation, the ground below covered with a thick, unruly mat of decades of fallen, decaying vegetation. Facing back toward the east, the entire scene impressionistically glistens with rays of clear, sea–reflected morning light.
