We crossed the bridge from the west at Islamorada in the Florida Keys in a completely open Jeep top and doors removed, the warm January wind whipping at us, and the late afternoon sun baking us from behind. We were running late for an evening engagement in Ft. Lauderdale, but the stillbright sun provided such a brilliant view of a tiny key to the south, that we slowed so I could snap a picture of it. The view from atop the bridge looking down toward this tiny piece of land enabled us to see it completely encircled by the blue of the Caribbean. And though the sun lit the waters to the west almost gold, the teal of the sea quickly fell to a deep blue off to the east.
This painting will be up for auction at the “Blessing of the Fleet” gala dinner and auction at All Saints Episcopal Church in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, February 5, 2005.
