Northwest of Fort Lauderdale is a lovely nature preserve with walking paths that twist around a small lake and through a forest of pines and tropical vegetation. When I lived in that area, I loved to take walks there especially on late winter afternoons when the low, slanting rays of the sun dappled the path and mysteriously colored the tree trunks in striking hues of blue and purple. Despite sitting in the heart of an overdeveloped suburban area, the park's quiet beauty always provided a relaxing end even to the most hectic of days.
