Wildfires are fairly common in Florida especially in the Everglades before the rainy season starts. Earlier in the summer, there was a wildfire miles and miles away out west in the 'glades. Looking west at the pillars of smoke from the front yard of my house, it looked like the fire was right behind the houses across the street. This painting shows how it looked driving west on Ft. Lauderdale's Commercial Boulevard at NW 31st Avenue, more than 30 blocks EAST of where I live. The sun was out full that afternoon brightening the trees and reflecting off the cars and the pavement as the smoke billowed up in front of us. It seemed like we were about to drive right into the fire. This painting was featured in the Broward Art Guild's Fifth Annual TriCounty Juried Exhibition.
