North of the Bradenton's Manatee River near Palmetto lies a wonderfully unspoiled nature preserve called Emerson Point. Our stomachs stuffed by enormous grouper sandwiches at nearby Bradenton Yacht Club one early December afternoon, we later found ourselves hiking in this lovely park and enjoying the lovely "Old Florida" views as we looked out over Palma Sola Bay through tree branches that had fallen along the shore. Even the abundant wildlife, like the great white heron shown here, seemed to be enjoying the serenity of this special place.
