This low wooden footbridge is a virtual icon in Wellfleet, Massachusetts, an old whaling village near the tip of Cape Cod. No less so is the stark white visage of the Congregational Church standing watch from Main Street high above. No other visual images portray the peace and beauty of this place as well as these two structures, and virtually every visitor leaves with images of them both either fixed in their minds or on photographic film. Looking at them now, I feel transported back to countless lazy afternoon walks over the lowtide mud flats and marsh grass of Wellfleet's Duck Creek.
