Indian Neck is a favorite beach to the south of Wellfleet Harbor. It takes its name from an old shell midden nearby. It's popular with beach enthusiasts during the summer because of the mild water of Cape Cod Bay, but I especially like it in September when the crowds are gone and the only footprints in the sand are mine. I can sit in my chair and admire the dunes and hills of Great Island off in the distance, and if the late summer sun gets too hot, cool off as I do here, undisturbed in the stillwarm water.
