The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a wide variety of Outer Cape topography,flora and fauna. I'm always especially attracted to this broad expanse of swamp with the Bay–side dunes rising brightly in the far distance. One of the loveliest things about a September stroll here is the sense of isolation one can feel — a sense reflected perfectly, I thought, by this lone snowy egret who was standing tall in late summer's yellowing grass.
