For decades, artists and others who wanted to escape a more hectic urban lifestyle have summered in humble "dune shacks" scattered across what is now the Province Lands of the Cape Cod National Seashore. We visited one last summer and were intrigued by its simplicity and isolation. With no running water or electricity, it's a challenging environment to be sure but one no doubt common to pioneers of old. To reach this shack, it's at least a 45-minute walk from town, the only means of access once you've moved in. Any takers?
