Though the Mayo Beach light is long gone, the lighthouse itself still stands, lovingly restored and updated, and out back sits this charming little building. I have no idea what it is or was for - something originally to do with the light itself, perhaps? - and haven't inquired. I just loved the look of it with the shadows from a dawning sun falling across its face, the fence with one of its missing rails, the tangles of beach roses surrounding it and, of course, the water of Wellfleet Harbor and the dark dunes of Great Island off beyond.
