Affectionately called "The Congo" by locals, Wellfleet's Congregational Church sits atop the hill on Main Street, dominating the village skyline in all directions. Usually painted as a central part of the local landscape, here the Congo is shown soaring skyward from a position at its base, the afternoon sun casting dramatic shadows across its steeple and cupola. The clock is actually the village clock, and it is the only one in the world that chimes the hour and half-hour in ship's time.
