More than 20 years ago, I would take my son's black Lab to Wellfleet's Bound Brook Beach, driving down a narrow, one-lane sand road to a sandy parking area. The beach was never crowded - five cars at most could park there, and it was too remote for many walkers - and Cassie would run up the dune path and down on to the beach to romp and play in the sand and gentle waves of the bay. Cassie is long gone now and so are those days, but the image of the path through the dunes remains etched in my memory, as foes the serene beauty of the beach and bay that lay beyond.
