Great Island in Wellfleet is actually a long, slender peninsula several miles long that separates Wellfleet Harbor from Cape Cod Bay to the west. When viewed from South Wellfleet on the east side of the harbor, it looks like a long, low spit of land with green- and sand-colored dunes that splits the deep blue of the water from the paler blue of the sky and eventually just disappears into both at its far southern end known as Jeremy Point. With a varied topography of beach, marsh, dunes and upland forest, it's a great place to hike and picnic - and we often do.
